A year ago Typhoon Ondoy visited Metro Manila, the city which we all thought was bulletproof from calamities. Or perhaps, we have always been news viewers of calamities in the provinces that it has made us apathetic until it rained endlessly on that fateful day of September 26, 2009.
The urbanites have their stories to tell, while some would rather forget that haunting nightmare. Like the 2004 Tsunami that hit several Asian countries, then a year later Hurricane Katrina in the US, it’s clear: force majeure or act of God has freedom to choose its victims . The only lesson we should remember: No one, no city, no country is bullet proof, unless you think like a fool.
